Al’s band was formed as an extension of ‘guys night out” after our weekly recreational league basketball game. Our band name wasn’t one of our own choosing. We used to call ourselves Random Jam but the owner of Dano’s in Hermosa where we were playing decided it didn’t fit us and gave us the generic name Al’s Band. I am hardly the leader of the band, just the sound engineer and rhythm guitarist. The band took on a life of its own and basketball was just the preliminary warm up for a night of music, now we rush to practice and play from 5:30 til ten or later and leave the basketball for the weekends.
We added new members and found a group of people who love music, but more importantly playing it. Member’s children have grown up in the band, most from Kevin’s family and have proven themselves as core members. We play at parties where the guests want to sing along. Our most recent party in Silverado Canyon had many guest singers, along with a group of 12 year old back up singers who just helped out, we welcome those with the desire to sing along with the band.
We have worked on about 750 songs over the years and add more each practice. Music is one of the healthiest past times around. Our group has stayed together over 20 years now. If you are interested in having us play at your event or party call me at 323-697-4334.
